Psychology Course Description
And Grading Policy:

The Course Description Booklet for QuartzHillHigh School outlines the subject matter and areas of study for this course as follows:

This course will introduce students to the study of the behavior and mental process of humans and other animals. Students will study psychological facts, principles and phenomena associated with psychology (including mental, emotional and behavioral disorders). Students will also study the various treatment techniques (therapies) used by psychologists to treat various disorders. Students will be studying such areas as human development, personality, intellect, principles of learning, thinking processes, personality disturbances, therapy, and social behavior.

Students will learn through, and be evaluated by, a variety of methods. Learning activities will include role-plays, personality tests, experimentations and research. Each student will be graded upon individual performance and interaction within group settings. Grades will be given for the following (though this is not a complete listing):

*Daily assignments: vocabulary terms, review questions, etc. (5-30 points each)
*Time Tracker (“Doo-Wats”): assignments written in school planner (5 points weekly)
*Definitions: define vocabulary term/important people (1 point per definition)
*Research Papers/Case Studies: one per semester (100-150 points each)
*Journal Entries/Article Responses: assigned on testing days (15 points each)
*Quizzes: on vocabulary terms/pop quizzes (10-20 points each)
*Chapter Tests (60-100 points each)
*Group Assignments: daily (5-20 points); long-term (50-100 points)
*A Final Exam/Final Project: at the end of each semester (150-200 points)
*Self-Assessments: (5 points each)
*Extra Credit: assigned to class as a whole. Students who wish to do so, may take advantage of extra credit opportunities. (10-25 points as assigned)
*Grades are not rounded up. Be sure to take advantage of the extra credit to insure a good grade in the class! =)

*IB/AP Experiment: Honor’s students are required to complete a replication of an experiment. This requires intensive research and above average writing, abstract thought and organizational skills sets. This is a college-level assignment.

REMEMBER: MAKE-UP WORK IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT. ALL ASSIGNMENTS ARE LISTED ON THE WHITEBOARD AND ONLINE! STUDENTS MUST PICK UP WORK THE FIRST DAY THEY RETURN TO SCHOOL AND RETURN IT WITHIN THE TIME LIMIT (NUMBER OF ABSENT DAYS). MAKE UP WORK MUST BE LABELED WITH THE PROPER HEADING, OR IT WILL NOT BE GRADED.
