  • Monday:

     Due: Huckleberry Finn,  ch. 1-5;

    Journal Response #1:

    1. List the main characters who appear in these first five chapters. What is your initial impression of each character? Find some quote or line in the text that sums up your image of each character.
    2. What are superstitions? Define "superstition” in your own words. Are there superstitions you or someone you know believe in? After examining them a little, do you think superstitions are based on logic or emotion? Maybe based on something else? Explain your answer in detail.

    Find the answers to the following questions:

    1. Where does the Mississippi River start?

    2. Where does it end?

    3. How long is it?

    4. Which states is it connected with?

    5. Which of those states fought for the North and which for the South in the Civil War?

    6. How does it rank among the world's longest rivers?

    7. What major rivers feed into it?

    8. What is the biggest (by population) city on the river?

    9. Which is the most populous state that connects with the river?

    10. How wide is the river at its widest point?

    Reading Journal #2:

    Describe Huck's relationship to Pap. What actions of both characters can you point to that justify your response? Next, describe Huck's relationship to Jim. What actions of both characters can you point to that justify your response?

     Friday:

     Read chapter seven from Tom Sawyer (handout);Then, answer questions.
